PATNA: In another incident of medical negligence, a 28-year-old woman lost her life during a sterilisation surgery conducted by a compounder of a private clinic in the absence of the doctors in Bihar's Samastipur district. The family members created a ruckus at the clinic after the woman's death, but the staff managed to flee from the spot. The medical staff has not been arrested even after 24 hours of the incident on Sunday.The compounder is still on the run, and raids are being conducted to nab him, police said.
According to cops, the deceased was identified as Babita Devi, wife of Chandan Thakur and a resident of Mubarakpur ward-14 in Musrigharari town, about 80 kilometers from Bihar’s capital. The woman was admitted to the clinic, situated on Patori road under Musrigharari police station in the district. The woman was admitted to the hospital around 9am on Saturday. First, the compounder and other staff told the family members that there was no doctor present in the clinic. Then, after some time, the compounder proceeded to conduct the surgery on the first floor of the two-story building.
“The operation for the family planning began around 11am after administering her saline water, but after one hour, the woman was transferred to another private medical establishment, about 10 kilometers away from there. The woman was shifted without the consent of her family members, but she was declared dead at the other clinic. Then the woman’s body was brought back to Anisha Health Care center, where her surgery was conducted. The family members started a protest outside the Anisha Health Care, demanding the immediate arrest of the doctor and the medical staff,” said Musrigharari SHO, Faizul Ansari.
Ansari further said that a complaint has been registered at the police station against the medical staff, doctor, and the clinic. Further investigation is underway in the matter.
