Child's Death at Aboi CHC Triggers Outrage; CSOs Issue Three-Month Ultimatum

The alleged death of a minor child at the Aboi Community Health Centre (CHC) on April 16 has triggered widespread outrage in Mon district, with grave allegations of medical negligence and claims that no doctors were present during the emergency.

According to accounts from family members and local residents, the child was brought to the facility for urgent care but allegedly did not receive timely medical attention due to the unavailability of healthcare personnel. The incident has intensified concerns over persistent gaps in staffing and emergency preparedness in rural healthcare institutions.

In response to the growing unrest, authorities on April 19 constituted an official inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The panel has been tasked with examining the conduct of on-duty staff, the availability of doctors at the time of the incident, and adherence to established treatment protocols. Officials have indicated that appropriate action will follow based on the committee’s findings.

Amid mounting public pressure, civil society organisations (CSOs) in Aboi have issued a three-month ultimatum to the state government, demanding swift accountability and structural reforms. Their demands include stringent action against any personnel found negligent, immediate strengthening of healthcare infrastructure, and the deployment of adequate and permanent medical staff to the facility.
