RAJOURI, June 6: A woman from Kotranka area of Rajouri district, who gave birth to a baby at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, is reportedly in critical condition and placed on ventilator support after allegedly being administered a wrong injection.
The family has accused hospital staff of medical negligence and demanded registration of an FIR as well as strict action against those responsible.
According to reports, Nusrat Jahan, a resident of Kotranka, was admitted to GMC Rajouri after experiencing labour pains on Friday morning. She underwent surgery and successfully delivered a baby on the same day. Family members stated that her condition was stable after the operation and that she was responding well to the treatment.
Nusrat Jahan’s brother, Asif Ali Choudhary, alleged that the operating doctor had clearly mentioned in the patient’s file that certain medications could trigger an allergic reaction and had instructed staff not to administer those drugs. However, he claimed that the evening-duty staff allegedly failed to properly review the medical file and administered the same injection.
According to the family, Nusrat suffered a severe allergic reaction immediately after receiving the injection and soon became unconscious. As her condition deteriorated, doctors shifted her to ventilator support for emergency treatment. The family alleges that the incident occurred due to negligence on the part of staff on duty.
The incident has sparked anger among family members and local residents. The family has demanded immediate registration of an FIR against the responsible staff members, their suspension, and the transfer of employees who have been serving at GMC Rajouri for long.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the allegations, GMC Rajouri Principal, Prof. (Dr) A S Bhatia, has constituted a committee of senior doctors to investigate the matter.
According to the official order, the committee has been directed to immediately assess the medical condition of Nusrat, review all aspects of the case, provide recommendations regarding her treatment, and submit a detailed report to the Principal’s office at the earliest.
The enquiry committee members included, Dr Chandra Shekhar, Dr Jameel- Ul- Hussain, Dr. Zakir Hussain and Dr Suhail Bandey.
