Addressing the media, Sagar Kaler alleged that his wife Kiran was pregnant with their third child and had been undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Phagwara under the supervision of Dr Simerdeep Kaur and Dr Manjit Naagar. He stated that May 4, 2026, was the scheduled delivery date and the family had reached the hospital early in the morning for the delivery.
However, he alleged that despite their repeated requests and the critical condition of the patient, the doctors failed to perform their duties on time and delayed the delivery procedure till the afternoon. According to him, the delay in medical intervention led to the death of the unborn child in the womb.

Members of Yuva Vikas Morcha warned that if no action was initiated by the administration, the organisation would intensify its agitation in the coming days. They also demanded accountability from the hospital administration and stressed the need for responsible healthcare services in government hospitals. The protest concluded peacefully after the demonstrators submitted their demands to the authorities. When contacted, Senior Medical Officer Dr Simardeep Kaur said that the Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala has constituted a three-member inquiry committee comprising Dr Parminder Kaur (gynaecologist), Dr Anil Sheemar (anaesthetist) and Dr Harpreet Momi (paediatrician).
