The mother of a nine-year-old girl, hailing from Pallassana in Palakkad district, alleged on Friday that medical negligence at Palakkad district hospital in treating a fracture led to the amputation of her daughter's right forearm.Meanwhile, Palakkad DMO Dr Rosh P V said health minister Veena George on Friday directed the directorate of health services to constitute an expert team to conduct an inquiry into the family's allegations.Palakkad district medical officials conducted a preliminary inquiry. "We submitted a preliminary report detailing all the facts. There will be an inquiry by an expert team, which is expected to be announced by the department on Saturday," said a health official in Palakkad.The Class IV student had fractured her arm on Sept 24 while playing with her brother at home. She was initially taken to Chittur hospital and later shifted to Palakkad district hospital with a fracture and an open wound on her forearm.The girl's mother Praseeda said doctors at district hospital conducted an x-ray and informed them that there were two fractures. The wound was dressed up, the hand put in plaster cast and the child sent home.However, the girl soon developed severe pain and difficulty in moving her fingers. When they returned to the hospital the next day, doctors reassured the family that some pain was normal, prescribed medicines and asked them to return after five days.
