The death of a newborn at a Primary Health Centre in Odisha’s Kandhamal district has sparked allegations of medical negligence, with the family accusing healthcare staff of mishandling the delivery.

Sources said the woman had been under observation and care at the Balandapada facility for two days before delivery.

Family Alleges Negligence

The woman’s husband, Deepankar Bagarti, has lodged a complaint with the police, alleging negligence on the part of the nurse.

“From 9 am to 7 pm, my wife was made to suffer. Despite that, I lost my child. If they were not capable of handling the case, they should have informed us. We could have taken her to Phulbani for a C-section. They kept dismissing our concerns and did not discharge her,” he alleged.

He further claimed that the delivery was conducted without his knowledge. “When I had gone to bring an ASHA worker, they took my wife for delivery without informing me. Because of this, my child was stillborn,” he said.
