A case of medical negligence was registered in Hyderabad’s Dundigal police station on Sunday, May 11, a week after a 26-year-old man died at SV Super Speciality Hospital in Bahadurpally.

The victim, 26-year-old Kurra Paramesh, worked at a packers and movers company when he suffered an injury in the vein of his right leg. Upon being rushed to the hospital, the doctors performed a surgery and Paramesh was initially recovering well and was to be discharged in two days.

However, in his complaint, Paramesh’s brother Mahesh stated that the victim was not discharged even after four days. “When the family questioned the doctors, they said that they took a CT scan which revealed that there was a blood clot in his brain, requiring another operation.”

SV Super Speciality Hospital charged the family Rs 3.8 lakh for the second operation. Mahesh further noted in his complaint that during the surgery, the doctors stated that Paramesh’s condition was critical. He was rushed to Gandhi hospital where he was declared dead.

Mahesh approached the Dundigal police alleging medical negligence. An FIR was registered under Section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to reports, SV Super Speciality Hospital has however stated that there was no case of negligence to be made.

"Our doctors did their best. While treating the leg injury, the patient lost 3 to 3.5 liters of blood, causing low blood pressure, paralysis, and a brain clot, which required surgery,” they stated.

Dundigal police said that the investigation is underway and the police are gathering details to determine the exact cause of death.
