In a tragic incident that has sparked tension and concern over medical negligence, an elderly woman allegedly died after being administered a wrong injection by a quack in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Karlapita village under the jurisdiction of Muribahal police limits. The deceased has been identified as Kaushalya Panika, a resident of the village. According to initial reports, Kaushalya had been unwell for some time and was taken for treatment by her granddaughter to a medical store operating in Haldi village. The establishment is reportedly run by one Tunu Bagarti, who is alleged to have been practising without proper medical qualifications.

Sources said that after examining the elderly woman, the accused administered an injection. Soon after receiving the injection, Kaushalya’s condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly, causing panic among her family members. Despite their efforts, she allegedly died within a short span of time, raising serious questions about the nature of the treatment provided.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals, with many alleging gross medical negligence and demanding strict action against the accused. Residents have also expressed concern over the growing presence of unqualified practitioners in rural areas, which continues to pose a serious threat to public health.
Upon receiving information, Muribahal Police reached the spot and began a preliminary investigation into the incident. The body is likely to be sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police officials stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
