A 9-year-old child diagnosed with dengue passed away within 24 hours of being admitted to a private hospital. Her parents alleged negligence. But the Commission saw it differently.

The patient had been unwell for three days when she was first taken to the doctor. With her fever and vomiting persisting, the family rushed her to the emergency room of a private hospital. She was admitted around 8:15 p.m., examined by the pediatrician, and started on IV fluids and tests including dengue serology.

The hospital records showed that the child was conscious and stable through the night. Her platelet count at midnight was recorded as 32,000. Another count at 6:30 a.m. showed 38,000. IV fluids were continued. At around 8:30 a.m., while she was being shifted for an X-ray, her condition suddenly deteriorated. She was moved to the ICU and referred to a tertiary care centre, where she died a few hours later.
