A woman in her late 30s underwent a planned laparoscopic gallbladder surgery at a private nursing home. During the procedure, she sustained a cut injury to the portal vein — a rare but serious complication. The surgeon converted the surgery from laparoscopic to open, but could not repair the injury. Internal bleeding continued.
Due to the lack of advanced surgical facilities at the hospital, the patient was referred to a tertiary hospital. However, her condition worsened en route, and she was admitted to a private hospital nearby, where she underwent vascular repair. She passed away the next day.
