Haveri, Sep 22: The vehicles of the district health officer and medical officer of the government maternity hospital were impounded for delay in disbursing compensation to the family of a lady who died during childbirth due to medical negligence.

Saroja from Kakol village in the taluk had been admitted for delivery into the government maternity hospital here in November 2007. Her delivery was uneventful but later, she started to bleed profusely. She had died in the hospital the same day.

The husband of the lady had filed suit in the court claiming that medical negligence had caused his wife's death. The court, which conducted the hearing, ordered to pay a compensation of five lac rupees to the family of the deceased lady. As per an order passed on July 7, 2014, the court had instructed Haveri district deputy commissioner and district health officer to disburse this compensation. As the district health officer failed to pay the compensation till now, the second district and sessions court judge had ordered the impound the vehicles.

Advocate, KN Deshpande, had argued the case on behalf of the relatives of the deceased.
