Imphal, November 29 2022: Alleging that the death of a baby during birth on Monday was due to the carelessness of JNIMS staff; the aggrieved family of the baby has refused to claim the body until the hospital authority suspends the doctor, nurse and staff involved in the incident.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, one Thiulungpou Gangmei of Khoupum conveyed that his daughter-in-law Machungongliu Kamei was brought to JNIMS to deliver her first baby at around 1.30pm on Monday.
At about 3.30 pm, her (Machungongliu) condition got serious and the doctor was informed, who assured that everything was fine and that it was normal in first pregnancies.
At around 6pm, she was wheeled into the labor room and then the family was informed that the baby had died, he recounted and alleged that the baby died due to the frivolous attitude of the doctors.
Condemning the manner in which the doctors and nurses ignored a woman who was clinging between life and death to give birth for over 4-5 hours, Thiulungpou demanded the doctors, nurses and staff assigned to the ward during the incident be suspended immediately, failing which the body of the baby will not be claimed.
He further informed that the above demand has been brought to the notice of JNIMS authority in writing and also urged the government to look into the matter so as to prevent a repeat of similar incident in the future.
