Health authorities have launched an investigation into an alleged case of medical negligence involving a severely ill baby taken to hospital on the western island of Zakynthos, officials said Wednesday.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said in a post on X he had pressed for the probe into “the sad incident with the doctor on Zakynthos who didn’t turn up for her shift, despite being summoned,” to be completed as soon as possible.
Georgiadis apologized to the parents of the five-month old boy.
The baby was taken to hospital on Zakynthos with meningitis Saturday, and from there was transferred to a hospital on the mainland, in Patra. It was reported to be on the mend Wednesday.
