Akin-Bright was rushed to the ICU at LASUTH with internal bleeding but did not survive, a family member confirmed.

The boy had been fighting for his life after multiple surgeries and the unexplained loss of his small intestine. His mother Abiodun Deborah had decried the lack of intervention from Lagos State and medical authorities regarding the incident.

Akin-Bright was referred to LASUTH in June after an intestinal obstruction surgery at a private hospital. After over a month at LASUTH, a burst abdomen led to another surgery where it was revealed his small intestine was missing.

Neither LASUTH nor the private hospital provided an explanation for the missing organ. Deborah pleaded for state government and Nigerian Medical Association intervention but received no response.

The tragic case highlighted concerns over medical negligence and lack of accountability in Nigerian hospitals. Akin-Bright’s death after such a monumental surgical failure and administrative silence from responsible bodies has renewed public outrage.

Investigations are demanded to uncover how such a catastrophic, unexplained loss of an organ could occur and whether negligence or malpractice contributed. Akin-Bright’s family deserves answers and justice regarding the mysterious circumstances leading to his death.
