A pregnant woman died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after her family alleged medical negligence and improper treatment at a private clinic in Kurigram’s Ulipur upazila, triggering anger in the local community.
The deceased, identified as Nurani Begum, 35, was a resident of Khamardamarhat area under Bozra union and mother of one child.
According to family members, Nurani was admitted to “Ulipur Adhunik Diagnostic Center and Hospital” after experiencing labour pain. Doctors there later decided to perform a caesarean section.
Relatives alleged that complications arose during the surgery due to negligence and incorrect treatment, causing severe damage to her uterus and excessive bleeding. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital late at night, where she died Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.
The victim’s family further claimed that clinic authorities initially attempted to conceal the severity of her condition before finally referring her to Rangpur after midnight.
